The Digital Switchover 2011 Most of
the country already has access to
digital TV, but the government wants to make sure that everyone has
access to better programming - some people still can’t get Channel Five.
So the government’s plan is that by switching to digital, television will
be fairer for everyone. The analogue signal will be replaced with the
digital one, which carries an array of free channels, including the
current BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, and Five When your home switches to digital will depend
on where you live in the UK, East Anglia is due to switch
November 2011
When your area is ready to
switchover, the government will switch off the analogue signal and you
will have to have the correct equipment to continue watching.
All households will need a TV with either freeview or freesat built in or a freeview or freesat
set top box connected to there existing TV to receive digital channels and
if you wish to record something different to what you are watching a
recorder with freeview or freesat built in
Switchover in our region will see analogue TV channels switched off
permanently in two stages.

To continue watching BBC2 between stage 1 and stage 2 you will need
to switch from Analogue to Digital
November 23rd 2011 Stage 2 (All
Analogue channels will be switched off)
To continue viewing TV after this date you will need to have either a digital
TV or digital set top box, freesat or Sky

Freeview is simply what it says FREE TV that will replace the 5
current analogue TV channels after the digital switchover
On June 30th 2011 (East Anglia)
You can currently get Freeview through your
existing aerial but will need to upgrade to a Wideband Aerial to recieve all available
channels after the switchover.
In order to recieve Freeview you will need a
TV with Freeview Built in (intergrated Digital) or a
Digital set top box which is easily connected to your existing tv

Freesat is the equivelent of freeview but through a satellite dish
instead of your existing TV aerial
and was set up by thye BBC and ITV to ensure
that 98 percent of the population can access the best of free
digital TV in areas where the
freeview signal can not be recieved
Freesat requires NO monthly subscription,
charges or contract to receive over 140
FREE channels
All that is required is the installation of a new Freesat
digital satellite system, which is a 'one-off' cost'.

Sky Digital is a Pay per View service that you get
through a satellite dish.
The Channels you will receive basically depends upon which package you
choose to subcribe to
Sky+ - This is a TV recorder and a digital receiver all in one.
This allows you to record two programmes simultaneously,
pause an rewind live TV, at the touch of a single button
you can record a selected series and you are also
able to store 40 hours of programming.
Sky also offer a HD service. You will need to get an HD ready television plus a sky+ HD box.
In order to get HD viewing, you must have HD Mix. (£10 a month extra)

BT Vision is on-demand digital TV for BT Total Broadband customers,
It provides digital terrestrial television (Freeview) channels
through your existing aerial using a BT Vision Set Top Box and also offers
thousands of shows to watch on demand, including sports TV,
kids' TV, music videos, films and more all ad-free and ready to start the second you press play,
so you set your own TV schedule. As with freeview You may need to upgrade your exising aerial to a High Gain Wideband to
to recieve all available channels after the switchover
Freeview HD will offer free HD Channels that will be run alongside Freeview
To get Freeview's high definition channels, you'll first need to wait until they're available in your area.
In some cases this may not be until 2012.
As with Freeview, Freeview HD will be received via a TV aerial.If you have an HD TV set with a built-in Freeview receiver, this will NOT be able to receive Freeview HD.
You will need to buy a Freeview HD set-top box (with DVB-T2) and connect it to your existing HD TV set.
or purchase a TV with Freeview HD built in.
FreesatHD is the same as freesat but also offers free High Definition Channels.
High Definition provides up to 5 times greater digital picture quality than standard definition, with more vibrant colours and much finer detail. You will also benefit from improved audio, with some programmes being available in Dolby Digital Surround Sound.
Providing you have a HD compatible television, and a HD Freesat receiver or a television with Freesat HD Built in you will benefit from the Freesat channel line up in glorious High Definition, providing greater, sharper and much more detailed pictures and vibrant colours.
